2024 Burnside Pairs team announced

A quartet of Australian teams will head across the Tasman to participate in the prestigious annual Burnside Pairs competition in January.

All eight selected individuals are Right at Home Australian Jackaroos boasting experience on Burnside’s greens, having competed there at various points during their careers.

Newly minted Jackaroo Nathan Black will return to the venue where he and Cohen Litfin secured the event’s premier prize, Australia’s third division one title, at the beginning of this year.

Joining Black in his title defence will be fellow Jackaroos inductee Nick Cahill, who progressed to the quarter-finals at the Under-26 Singles at Burnside just prior to The Nationals.

The second men’s team will see a pair of former division two champions return to New Zealand on the hunt for more silverware.

Aaron Teys, who partnered Cody Packer for the title in the second category ten months ago and who had previously claimed the division three crown in 2016 alongside Aron Sherriff, received the nod from selectors to attempt a sweep of silverware.

Lining up alongside Teys is Carl Healey, looks to add his name to the honour roll yet again after conquering the division two event in 2020 with Jayden Christie.

Both Australians are coming off gold medalling winning World Bowls Championships campaigns, where Healey collected two gold medals and Teys one throughout the fortnight of competition on the Gold Coast in September.

In the women’s contingent, two-time divisional champion Chloe Stewart will skip one of the teams as she strives to add her name to the honour roll for a third time having won the division three title in 2015 and division four in 2016.

Stewart will team up with Kylie Whitehead, who made the trip across the ditch for January’s event, making it as far as the division one’s post sectional rounds.

A pair of Commonwealth Games champions round out the contingent, in dual gold medallists Ellen Ryan and Natasha Van Eldik.

The pair played at Burnside together in 2016, finishing equal third in division four.

The 2024 Burnside Pairs will run from January 12-14, 2024, at the Burnside Bowling Club in Christchurch, New Zealand.
