Bathurst MP Paul Toole recently joined bowlers in Oberon to make the announcement for a $160,000 grant and said the new green would provide a major boost to the sport in the region.

Without the support of the grant, the exisiting green at Oberon may have been closed with many bowlers having to travel long distances to play.

The RSL’s Men’s and Ladies’ Committee intend on making the most of this opportunity in transforming the club into a community hub by targeting local schools, sporting groups and businesses in Oberon and its surrounding areas.

General Manager Peter Price was an instrumental figure behind the application and said the boost for the community was undeniable.

“We now have a suitable venue for our members to play bowls, hold Club District, Regional Championships and tournaments for patrons and visitors,” he said.

“This also opens the window for Oberon to attract new members through social and barefoot bowls competitions and programs.”
