New South Wales’ Dawn Hayman has claimed the 2021 Commonwealth Games Australia Female Bowler of the Year award at Bowls Australia’s (BA) Awards Night.

A member of the Jackaroos squad, Hayman’s year has been exemplary with a successful Australian Champion of Champions title defence, as well as clinching the New South Wales state singles title.

Hayman’s form continued in the bowls Premier League, where she played brilliantly on debut for the Perth Suns at BPL13 in Brisbane.

The 24-year-old concluded the season just a solitary point ahead of fellow Jackaroo Kristina Krstic in the National Rankings to edge the Western Australian for the coveted prize.

Hayman is overjoyed by the accolade, as well as relieved that she was able to hang on in a tight finish to the season and acknowledges her club and family support throughout her bowling journey thus far.

“I’m very grateful to receive this award because it was such a close finish at the end of the year,” she said.

“Thank you to Bowls Australia for running what events they could this year in what has been a challenging time with all of the COVID-19 lockdowns, everyone appreciates your efforts.

“Thank you to my Club of St John’s Park Bowling Club for their support, it is such a great club to be a part of.

“A big thanks to my partner and all my family who come around to support me, not only in bowls but anything else that I do.

“Finally, thank you to my mum and dad, who sadly aren’t with me anymore, but if it wasn’t for them getting me into bowls and taking me around as a junior I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
