Australian men start strongly at Multi-Nations

Debutant Aaron Teys has enjoyed a stellar start to his promising and his international career, alongside his namesake, Aaron Wilson in the GOLD team.
The pair recorded a 26-8 victory against Malaysia to open proceedings, while Jackaroos Vice-Captain Brett Wilkie took over in from Teys in the second round, where they toppled their countrymates Barrie Lester and Nathan Rice, from the GREEN team 17-12.
Australia’s GOLD team is equal on points and shot differential with New Zealand.
In the men’s triples, it’s the GREEN team combination of Wayne Ruediger, Corey Wedlock and Aron Sherriff that ladder leaders after the second round of play, having upstaged Hong Kong China 26-8 and their fellow Jackaroos from the GOLD team, Ray Pearse, Brett Wilkie and Scott Thulborn, 22-13.
The nation’s GREEN team is 16 shots clear of the Blackjacks.
In the women’s side of the ledger, New Zealand lead the way in the women’s singles, leading Malaysia by 15 shots, while Australia’s two teams have been relegated to fifth and sixth with one win each but with a neutral shot differential.
GREEN team’s Ellen Ryan was unable to account for Malaysia in the opening round, 10-21, while GOLD team’s Natasha Scott toppled Hong Kong China, 21-7.
However, the teams became log-jammed on one win when Karen Murphy was handed the reigns in the GREEN team, where she was victorious 21-9.
Australia’s two teams are in a similar position in the women’s fours, currently in fifth and sixth position after two rounds.
Each team has prevailed once, the GOLD team unable to account for the ladder leaders Malaysia in the opening round, but got the better of their fellow Jackaroos in the second round after shuffling the make-up to Lynsey Clarke, Bolivia Millerick, Ellen Ryan and Kelsey Cottrell.
Australia’s GREEN team of Chloe Stewart, Kristina Krstic, Carla Krizanic and Rebecca Van Asch recorded an opening win against Hong Kong China, 14-9 to earn their sole victory.
Play continues at Broadbeach Bowls Club, with four sessions played today, and the para-sport component of the event joining the fray from tomorrow until June 7.
