Bowls Australia’s (BA) commitment to diversity and inclusion was recognised last week at the Sport Australia Media Awards night.

BA was nominated as a finalist in the ‘Best depiction of inclusive sport’ category, for work produced for The Bowls Show, bowls.com.au and The Right Line podcast.

In a category full of great work, renowned documentary maker Peter Dickson took out the coveted award for his film The Ripple Effect.

BA did not go unrecognised however, earning a ‘highly commended’ honour to shine a light on the great work contributed despite falling just short of the award win.

BA’s submissions for the award highlighted the diverse and inclusive nature of the sport, with people of all ages and abilities able to participate and have fun doing so.

“There were many outstanding contributions from the other finalists in the inclusion category, none more so than Peter Dickson’s, so it was incredibly pleasing for our work in bowls to be highlighted and commended by the judging panel at an event that recognises the best in Australian sports media,” Bowls Australia’s Communications and Marketing Manager Aidan Davis said.

“Bowls is intrinsically linked to the fabric of Australian society, with thousands of clubs across the width and breadth of the country and in every local government area, and enjoyed by hundreds of thousands Australians of all ages, demographics, backgrounds and beliefs.

“Bowls truly epitomises the Australian ethos of egalitarianism, classlessness and mateship; it’s the ultimate leveler and a sport that brings communities and people of all types together.

“At BA, we strive to shine on a light on the diversity of this great sport and the people that enjoy it.
