Bowls Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Walton to its Board. Bowls Australia is pleased to announce the addition of Andrew Walton to its Board of Directors.

Walton, who fills the last remaining Appointed Director role on the organisation’s Board, has an extensive background in business management and sports administration, particularly in relation to harnessing and developing sports technology through his position as the founder and Director – Sales and Marketing of InteractSport.

InteractSport, a digital and online sports management service provider, has delivered technical platforms for a range of national sporting organisations, including Cricket Australia’s MyCricket and Live Score functionality, with Walton charged with the responsibility of all commercial, sales and marketing activities.

Walton also boasts considerable experience in grassroots sport, having held coaching positions at India’s Karnataka Institute of Cricket, England’s Middlesex County Cricket Club, Fitzroy-Doncaster Cricket Club and his current role as Head Coach at Melbourne Cricket Club.

He also has a thorough understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Director through his current tenure as an Elected Director on the Board of VicSport and Australian Sports Technologies Network.

Bowls Australia President Nigel Smith said he believed Andrew would contribute enormously to the organisation through his background in technology and innovation.

“Andrew is a fantastic appointment to our Board and brings with him a wealth of knowledge in utilising technology and social media,” Smith said.

“This appointment emphasises the organisation’s strong desire to acquire Board Directors with specific skill-sets and knowledge-bases to enhance the sport’s strategic direction.”

Walton said that he was looking forward to the opportunity and was confident he could make a contribution the sport.

“As the rapid shifts in technology enable improved opportunity for the expansion of knowledge across all levels of sport, I look forward to the privilege of sharing my involvements with the bowls community to deliver a cohesive digital awareness,” Walton said.

Walton will fill an Appointed Director role, one of three on the nine-person Board, until the 2016 Annual General Meeting.
