BowlsLink Club Websites get an upgrade

by Bowls Australia on June 27, 2023

As part of the upcoming BowlsLink quarterly upgrades in July a change will occur for those clubs currently using the FREE website offering. The in-built default editor will be changing from the current “Classic” editor to a new advanced editor called “Gutenberg”, also known as the Block editor.

The Gutenberg Block editor brings with it many new features which are listed below, there are many excellent training videos available on YouTube including one we recommend at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90zkJeMgqiA which will assist clubs with how the new editor works and the extra features that are available.

The Advantages of Gutenberg:

  • New slick and standardized interface
  • Classic editor is still available
  • Ability to structure the content in a desired order (for example, put an image gallery before the text)
  • Integration of galleries via a new block, rather than inserting a shortcode in the editor
  • Possibility of editing the parameters of an image on the same page (in the sidebar with the block of the selected image)
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Ability to switch between several editing modes (full screen, full page, etc.) for the editor
  • Drag & drop interface to move blocks
  • The publishing interface stretches according to the size of the content
  • Ease to reuse components across pages and sections of the site
  • Ability to use the basic blocks to display the list of categories, recent publications, table, etc. without having to develop anything on the side.
  • Possibility to improve the “blocks”.
