#BPL08 – Day 1: Gorillas beat their chest

by Aidan Davis on November 13, 2018

The Silkari Illawarra Gorillas have got off to the best possible start on the opening day of BPL08, winning all four of their matches.

It was a thrilling opening day’s play at Club Pine Rivers (QLD), with a boisterous opening night atmosphere to boot.

The Gorillas were unstoppable, with Kay Moran, Aaron Teys and Jeremy Henry disposing of the Steamers, Roys, Blackjacks and defending champions, the Club Helensvale Gold Coast Hawks.

Chasing them are the Steamers, who ended the day with three wins, while the Blackjacks, Pirates and Roys all secured two wins on Day 1.

Rounding out the standings are the Suns, Lions and the Hawks, all with just the one win from four matches.

You can catch all the BPL08 action daily via Bowls Australia’s Facebook page (Rinkside Live) and be sure to tune into Fox Sports (Sky Sports NZ for New Zealand audiences) nightly from 6pm AEDT for the action-packed night sessions.

Running in conjunction with BPL08 are the BPL Cup National Finals, and two teams sealed their passage through to the semi-finals of the competition, with Darwin Bowls and Social Club and North Toowoomba Bowls Club powering through.
