BPL19: Day 4 recap

by Val Febbo on February 22, 2024

The penultimate day of BPL19 at the Moama Bowling Club has set up what is set to be one of the most exciting final mornings in the tournament’s history.

Just one win separates first and seventh on the table, with the teams in eighth and ninth a further victory back and a major chance of featuring in the finals.

As they have for the majority of the competition, the Moreton Bay Pirates have concluded the day atop the table thanks to a strong finish to the night.

Losing their opening two matches of the day saw Dawn Hayman, Alex Marshall MBE and Ryan Burnett in third place heading into the later matches, but wins against the Adelaide Pioneers and Gold Coast Hawks put them in pole position with two rounds to go.

Joining the Pirates on nine wins are the Melbourne Pulse, who also notched up a fifty per cent winning record for the day thanks to positive results against the Melbourne eXtreme and Pioneers.

Also equal on nine wins are the Sydney Lions and Tweed Heads Ospreys with both looking to become the first team in BPL history to clinch a fifth title.

In fifth place sit the Perth Suns, who were second heading into the night session, but a loss to the Tasmania Tridents sees Carl Healey, Kristina Krstic and Blake Nairn a win off top spot with two rounds to play.

The chasing pack starts with the Tridents and Moama Steamers on eight wins, also a win off top spot and looking to make their moves on the deciding morning.

Adelaide and the Hawks are a further win behind on seven but still a large chance of featuring in the top five, with the eXtreme on the bottom of the table with six wins after a tough day on the green.
