Victorian Brad Holland has been named as the recipient of the 2021 APIA Coach of the Year award at Bowls Australia’s annual Awards Night.

Holland has worked wonders at South Bendigo Bowls Club, which claimed Division One pennant honours for the first time in 26 years under his tutelage.

In addition, South Bendigo reached the finals in all other Bendigo Divisions.

Education is a large part of Holland’s philosophy, holding private coaching sessions at the club and turning beginner bowlers into pennant level players, as well as instigating a formalised pennant training program at the club.

With such strong competition around the nation, he is humbled at the accolade and notes the camaraderie throughout the club as a key factor for its success.

“It’s an absolute honour to receive this award as there are many great coaches across the country being up for this award so to be recognised in this way is a huge honour,” Holland said.

“I’d like to give a big thank you to the South Bendigo Bowls Club for giving me this opportunity to perform my role, it’s a journey we embarked on six years ago to which the club has supported me greatly.

“We set out to make ourselves better players a better club to be more competitive in our local pennant competition and we’ve managed to win a few pennant championships along the way, as well as playing finals regularly.

“Finally to my family, to my partner Sarah, who’s always been a great support to me, my parents and also my great mates who have played a massive role in my life and this achievement, so thank you all.”
