Krizanic, 26, took up lawn bowls 10 years ago after her sister began playing and she “thought it would be better to be playing rather than watching”.

Today, Krizanic flies out to Christchurch, New Zealand as part of Australia’s national team, the Jackaroos, to compete in the 2016 World Bowls Championships.

Krizanic said it was a career highlight to be selected as one of five females in the 10-member team for the event, which takes place every four years.

“It’s an honour really,” she said. “I never aspired to play for Australia but as I got into the game I started to love it, and I wouldn’t change anything.”

Krizanic will compete in the ladies’ triples and fours competitions at the titles from November 29 until December 11.

She has had an incredible 2016, winning the Australian Singles Champion of Champions tournament and earning a bronze medal at the World Indoor Cup.

Krizanic said she and her teammates were determined to bring home gold for Australia as they competed against eight other nations.

“We’ve set our sights to make finals in all the events and with the girls our aim is to come home with at least two out of four gold medals,” she said.

“All the girls in the team have had a really good 12 months, so hopefully we can combine that and replicate it in New Zealand.”

Krizanic plays three-to-four times a week and is in the middle of her pennant season with Sunbury.

She is a nominee for the Sunbury/Macedon Ranges Leader senior sports award, presented by Sportsmart.
