Dandenong Club’s Melbourne Pulse lead the way for disaster relief

Following a sizeable donation to the Bowls Australia Disaster Relief Fund after BPL11 last year, the Melbourne Pulse and franchise owner Dandenong Club have once again shown compassion and kindness after the conclusion of the latest edition of the event in Moama.

With Australia ravaged by bushfires at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, BCiB Australian Jackaroo Barrie Lester initiated a drive to donate $10 from every ‘toucher’ made throughout last year’s sole BPL event, with fellow teammates, the club and its members pitching in to reach a sum of $4,850.

The charitable act assisted fire affected clubs across the nation’s east coast, with support offsetting insurance premiums to help commence the construction of new facilities following the natural disaster.

Lester, a Disaster Relief Fund ambassador, carried his initiative into BPL12 where he and Pulse teammates Gary Kelly and Ellen Ryan would again raise money for every toucher made throughout the four-day event on the Murray.

The franchise progressed to the preliminary final after claiming a record breaking nine straight wins to begin the tournament, finishing on top of the ladder after fourteen rounds.

Throughout the event the trio amassed 100 touchers, ultimately contributing a further $2000 for the fund, raising the cumulative total to $6,850 from the two editions.

Dandenong Club President Charlie Daly said he was thrilled with the sum raised and proud that his club had supported a worthy cause.

“At Dandenong Club we have been helping to raise funds for this cause for a while now;  the Pulse team members initiated the chance to be involved at BPL11 and made their own personal contributions to the fund that we were pleased to also support,” Daly said.

“At BPL 12, Barrie, Gary and Ellen have been fantastic in their willingness to once again help clubs suffering from natural disasters by achieving a total of 100 touchers.

“I am delighted the Club’s board has seen fit to support the Pulse team’s efforts.”
