Davis claims come-from-behind victory but Tigers look strong

New South Wales star Jono Davis storms home to win his Boys Singles encounter, but Tasmania take out the remaining 3 rinks against home town favourites NSW Jono Davis completed a stirring come-from-behind victory in the opening session of day three at the Australian Under 18 Championships in a strong statement to his Boys’ Singles competitors.

However, in a powerful showing, Tasmania won the remaining three contests against the Blues with narrow victories in the Boys’ Fours (19-18) and Girls Pairs (16-15), as well as a more comfortable 19-11 win in the Girls’ Triples, to continue the weekend of the Tiger!

Queensland’s Nick Cahill produced heroics on the final end of his Boys’ Singles clash by displacing the opposing shot bowl with an emphatic drive to clinch the 21-19 triumph over Western Australia’s Kaleb Walding. Queensland were undefeated in session one after completing its series sweep in the Boys Fours, Girls Pairs and Girls Triples encounters.

South Australia continue to be the form team of the championships after narrowly accounting for the Australian Capital Territory 10-9 in the Boys Fours and claiming the Boys Singles 21-6, while their girls teams received byes.

Victoria secured a Boys’ Singles victory over the Northern Territory in its only game in the opening session of play, with Jarryd Davies triumphing 21-7 against John Davies.

The Australian Under 18 Championships continues today at Taren Point Bowling Club, with two more sessions at 11:15am and 2:30pm before the two rounds of finals on Monday.
