Eight people awarded OAM for service to bowls
Eight individuals were recognised with the Medal of the Order of Australia yesterday for their contribution to the sport of bowls and the community.
Eight individuals were recognised yesterday, during the 2017 Australia Day honours, with the Medal of the Order of Australia for their contribution to the sport of bowls, or for their service to the community, which encompassed the sport in some way.
Among those bestowed the coveted medallion was Bowls Australia Board Member and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Wayne Turley.
Bowls Australia congratulates the following people on their OAM, and thank them for their tireless and ongoing support of bowls.

The Order of Australia recognises Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service, with the Medal of the Order of Australia the fifth level of appointment in terms of seniority.
Nominations for the Medal of the Order of Australia are reviewed by the Council for the Order of Australia and then approved by the Governor-General
More than 1000 people were honoured in the General Division of the Order of Australia yesterday, with inductions into the Order occurring twice per year, on Australian Day and on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday in June.
