2023 Nationals Travel details and tour packages

Perth overview

Framed around Kings Park, carved by the s-bends of the Swan River with 19 pale, sandy beaches, Western Australia’s capital, Perth, is a dynamic city that balances its natural beauty with a lively after-dark scene.

Perth is safe, friendly, clean and easy to get around, whether you’re taking public transport, self-driving or jumping in a taxi or uber, with the city centre just a 20 minute drive from the airport.

The Western metropolis is the sunniest capital city in Australia, with an abundance of things to do and places to explore.

From walks in one of the largest inner-city parks, to half-hour drives to fringing wineries and bushland where you can see kangaroos and cockatoos, to Rottnest Island, famous for its smiling quokkas and picture-perfect bays, only a 30-minute ferry trip across the ocean.

Home to Optus Stadium, judged the most beautiful sports facility in the world in 2019, and the picturesque sands of Cottesloe Beach, there’s something for everyone in Perth.

Perth will play host to Bowls Australia’s 2023 Nationals, with bowlers from around the country descending on the western capital.

Food and drink

Western Australia’s eating and drinking scene is a true feast for the senses, promising delectable experiences at every turn.

Perth’s sensational dining options are diverse and delicious, ranging from sophisticated restaurants showcasing the best of the state’s produce to simpler but equally mouth-watering eateries. Immerse yourself in the lively bar scene, sip cocktails in heritage surroundings, or pull up a stool in a country pub.

Western Australia is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world and home to nine distinct wine regions. Two – world-renowned Margaret River and historic Swan Valley – are a short trip from Perth. Elsewhere, you can discover a growing number of award-winning wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Sparkling-fresh seafood and rare black truffles are some of the local ingredients making their way onto menus – so pack your appetite, look out for seasonal culinary events and make the most of the state’s rich bounty.
