Grant Fehlberg withdraws from Commonwealth Games
Grant Fehlberg, the father and director of vision-impaired Jackaroo Jake, has made the difficult decision to withdraw from his position for the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games due to unforeseen family circumstances.
Fehlberg, who claimed gold alongside his son on the Gold Coast in 2018, had intended to try to replicate their heroics later this month in Birmingham, but will instead remain at home with the full support of the entire high performance team.
South Australian National Pathways Coach Matthew Northcott will stand in for Grant on the greens of Royal Leamington Spa, with the squad set to embark on its journey this weekend.
Determined as ever, Jake knows he has the unwavering support of his family and said he was grateful for his father’s guidance throughout the selection period, while expressing his thanks to Northcott for stepping in at such short notice.
“Unfortunately, due to family circumstances, my dad has withdrawn as my director for the 2022 Commonwealth Games,” Fehlberg said.
“This decision has been made with my full support, and I would like to thank him for his contributions in assisting me to achieve selection to the Games.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to Matthew for stepping in at such late notice; I look forward to working with him in the UK.”
