Former Solargain Perth Suns player Jeremy Henry is the latest APL player to announce he will be switching allegiances for the 2015 event, teaming up with Kelvin Kerkow at XXXX Brisbane Gold. XXXX Brisbane Gold has secured the services of Irish sensation Jeremy Henry to join their franchise for the third instalment of Bowls Australia’s revolutionary event, the $110,000 Australian Premier League.

After weeks of speculation that XXXX Brisbane gold were in the market for an international player to add to their powerhouse line-up; today they have announced the enlistment of Henry; a multiple world champion and rival Solargain Perth Suns star.

Looking to reign supreme once again, XXXX Brisbane Gold have picked up one of the world’s best players to join forces with Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kelvin Kerkow OAM and Pine Rivers local star Robbie Wild who were inaugural Brisbane Gold members that tasted success in the first ever APL.

Jeremy Henry was an inaugural member of the Perth Suns who were semi-finalist in APL01 and APL02; however in 2015 Henry will trade in his tangerine strip and jump on board with the home town heroes; a franchise owned by APL host club, Club Pine Rivers.

“It’s been a great two years with the Suns; firstly I would like to thank Coach Wayne Turley and ‘Plucker’ (Clive Adams) who have been present on both occasions and also to Whiz (Brett Wilkie) and Tommy (Tom Mitchell),” Mr Henry said.

“I have really enjoyed myself and take pride in the fact that we were not expected to qualify in such a world class field but have defied the odds and qualified twice for the finals.”

Henry has plenty of things to look forward to at XXXX Brisbane Gold including playing with world class players in front of a fanatical home town crowd.

“Obviously when Brisbane came calling I thought long and hard about the opportunity in front of me and it was the overwhelming thought of playing in front of the magnificent home crowd at Pine Rivers and also the chance to play with Kelvin instead of against him for a change,” Mr Henry said.

XXXX Brisbane Gold’s Kelvin Kerkow is thrilled to have such a quality international bowler joining the Brisbane ranks.

“Jeremy is a great gain for Brisbane and we are very excited to have him on board after he has played so well at Pine Rivers in the opening two APL’s for Perth, he will certainly strengthen our side,” Mr Kerkow said.

“Jeremy is a very positive player and although I have never played with him before I’m looking forward to teaming up with such a competitive player and having so much local support once again from the fantastic Pine Rivers crowd.”

Henry has quickly adapted his game to the new fast paced format and has been an impact player in the opening two APL’s.

Having gone so close on both occasions to be named APL’s Most Valuable Player, Henry will certainly boost Brisbane’s chances of claiming their second APL crown.

Mark Casey is the XXXX Brisbane Gold player who will be on the move in 2015 and this week he announced he is moving back to his home clubs franchise, Club Helensvale’s Gold Coast Hawks.

The announcement of Henry’s departure from the Solargain Perth Suns leaves a spot vacant for the team from the West.

Will the Solargain Perth Suns go searching for an International superstar or perhaps utilize another Western Australian representative who puts in a strong performance at the Australian Sides Championships?
