The open disciplines suffered five losses from eight starts, across the “GREEN” and “GOLD” teams, in this morning’s fifth round.
The GREEN contingent fared better than the GOLD, winning half of their contests against Canada, with both men’s disciplines securing the 3 points.
Nathan Rice seized his opportunity in the singles with a 21-14 victory, while Wayne Rudiger, Corey Wedlock, Barrie Lester and Aron Sherriff secured the top of the table standing in the men’s fours with a 15-12 win.
The women’s pairs and triples teams, which featured the duo of Carla Krizanic and Bec Van Asch and the treble of Kristina Kristin, Chloe Stewart and Natasha Scott, were upstaged 12-17 and 12-14 respectively.
The trio are now 4 points off the lead, which is held by New Zealand, while their teammates in the GOLD team trail them by 22 shots, after their pairing of Ellen Ryan and Karen Murphy prevailed 16-13.
They were GOLD teams sole win this morning, with the Blackjacks claiming the spoils of the other three contests.
In the men’s event, Scott Thulborn dropped his encounter 10-21, the men’s fours team of Aaron Teys, Ray Pearse, Brett Wilkie and Aaron Wilson lost 11-22, but are still right in the hunt, in third place and equal with Australia’s other team and New Zealand on 12 points.
The women’s triples team of Bolivia Millerick, Lynsey Clarke and Kelsey Cotrell also faltered, 12-18, but are still equal second on the standings, with just shots separating them from their Jackaroos teammates.
The para-sport teams enjoyed contrasting fortunes from the open teams, and won both of their encounters against England.
Vision-impaired mixed pairs combination of Lynne Seymour and Jake Fehlberg triumphed 16-9, while Tony Bonnell, Ken Hanson and Chris Flavel finished with the exact same scoreline.
The sixth and seventh preliminary rounds will be staged at Broadbeach today, with all finals played tomorrow.
