Indoor champ steals top spot

by admin on September 3, 2015

The month of August has seen Australian Indoor Championship winner Jeremy Henry hit the front of the Aero Bowls National Rankings; whilst our current women’s number one spot remains in the hands of Australian Jackaroo Natasha Scott. An Australian Indoor Championship title was not enough for Carla Odgers to dislodged Australian Jackaroos team mate Natasha Scott from the top of the Aero Bowls National Rankings.

Scott remains the one to beat in the women’s race after she jumped out of the blocks early with a victory in the New South Wales Champion of Champion singles and then backed that up with a semi-final appearance at the prestigious Golden Nugget.

Odgers’ win at the Australian Indoor Championships moves her into second spot after picking up 90 ranking points for her victory over Australian Jackaroos Captain Lynsey Clarke in a fantastic final that went into a thrilling tie-break.

In the men’s rankings, two-time Australian Indoor Champion Jeremy Henry was able to snatch top spot from Burleigh Heads’ Scott De Jongh with his stellar performance at Tweed Heads last month.

The former Northern Ireland representative was no stranger to the indoor surface and was favoured by many to take out his second indoor crown and now leads the race two months into the new rankings year.

Back-to-back Golden Nugget Singles Champion Ryan Bester moved quickly into third spot, keeping within reach of a consecutive top of the table finish in the Aero Bowls National Rankings.

Bester and fellow Australian number one Natasha Scott will claim their $3000 winner’s cheque courtesy of Aero Bowls at the Hall of Fame and Awards Night to be staged at Mantra Legends Surfers Paradise on Thursday October 29.

With the Australian Under-18 championships just around the corner, plenty of young stars have made their way into the top 20 of the national rankings.

ACT’s Jessica Hogan is the highest ranked of the juniors set to compete at this year’s national championships, currently in equal 10th position behind some of the world’s best bowlers who have taken control of the top 10.

NSW champion Dylan Skinner and Northern Territories 12 year old superstar Marcus Simpson are currently sitting in equal 17th position.
