Queensland’s Jake Rynne has been named as the recipient of the 2021 Tourism and Events Queensland Under-18 Male Bowler of the Year award at Bowls Australia’s annual Awards Night.

A member of the Emerging Jackaroos squad, Rynne enjoyed a stellar year which included the Queensland Champion of Champions title and has reached a career high national ranking of number two.

As recognition of his success, Rynne has been granted a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Tier 2 scholarship in 2022, giving him access to the minds and knowledge of some of Australia’s finest athletes.

Rynne puts his award down to the help he has received throughout his career from a variety of role models both in or away from the bowls club.

“The road to winning this award is not an easy one, and I am certainly no exception, so I would like to thank firstly my grandparents, and mum in particular, for sacrificing so much for me and helping me overcome all kinds of obstacles to be able to pursue my bowling goals and dreams.

“I quite simply wouldn’t be where I am today within any aspect of myself without the help of mum and I cannot thank her enough.

“Bowls is a game that has opened me up to meeting some of the most influential people in my life so far, and not just on the sporting side.

“Also to Ian Schuback, for all the opportunities on and off the green calls that I gained so much wisdom from.

“Next to Greg Bostock, Greg, thank you so much for everything you have done for me over the past, I’m not even sure how many years, but without you I would not have made it to the position I’m in today.”
