Journey to the World Bowls Championships: Carl Healey

by Val Febbo on August 22, 2023

Ahead of next week’s World Bowls Championships, the Right at Home Jackaroos share their journeys across the years that has seen them selected for the sport’s showpiece event on the Gold Coast.

Up next, Carl Healey.

How did you get started in bowls?
Saturday morning coaching suggested by my uncle.

Which was the first bowls club you became involved with?
Penrith Bowling and Recreation Club

Which clubs have you been involved with throughout your journey?
Penrith BC, Roselands BC, Grandviews BC and Cabramatta BC.

Who is your current club and how have they shown you support throughout your career?
Cabramatta Bowling Club. The club and the members have been extremely supportive throughout my time there. They make it a pleasure to represent them.

Who has been the biggest influence on your bowls journey and why?
My parents. Without their support, I wouldn’t be the player I am today.

Is there a particular coach who has influenced your bowls journey the most?
I’d say my mentor and great friend of over 15 years, Cameron Curtis.

Why is the 2023 World Bowls Championships so important to you and the people who have helped you on your journey?
Well only a small number of Australian representatives get to play at the World Championships, so it makes it quite special to be representing not only them and your country but also every coach/player/partner and friend that has had any input into making this dream come true.
