Journey to the World Bowls Championships: Kristina Krstic

by Val Febbo on August 22, 2023

Ahead of next week’s World Bowls Championships, the Right at Home Jackaroos share their journeys across the years that has seen them selected for the sport’s showpiece event on the Gold Coast.

Up next, Kristina Krstic.

How did you get started in bowls?
My dad Joe introduced me to the sport at the age of nine and the rest is history!

Which was the first bowls club you became involved with?
Osborne Park Bowling Club

Which clubs have you been involved with throughout your journey?
Osborne Park and my current club Manning where I’ve been a member for the past 13 years.

Who is your current club and how have they shown you support throughout your career?
Manning BC – the members are like family to me and have supported me from my time as a junior until this day. They made it possible for me to compete in our club championships while I was still at school, provided me with coaching and have given me the uttermost love and support since. My favourite memories at Manning include our eventful premiership celebrations at the club and the Commonwealth Games send off that they hosted for me which I will be forever grateful for.

Who has been the biggest influence on your bowls journey and why?
My dad – he introduced me to the sport but has also been my biggest supported and has been there for me through all the highs and lows in my career. Even the times where I’ve been disappointed in myself, he’s been the one to pick me back up and show me that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Is there a particular coach who has influenced your bowls journey the most?
Therese Hastings – to me she is the definition of a GREAT sporting coach. She has always motivated me to be the best version of myself that I can be (especially earlier on in my career), has always been extremely supportive, trusting and honest. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her and the belief she has had in me.

Why is the 2023 World Bowls Championships so important to you and the people who have helped you on your journey?
This World Bowls Championships are extra special to me being my first one ever! I couldn’t be more excited to have some of my family and friends there cheering me on (including my dad, his partner Shirley and my partner Marcus). I am extremely grateful for every single special person in my life who has supported me on my journey and who have helped me achieve this life long dream. This is for you! Go Aussies!
