Yesterday’s newsletter was jam packed with information and stories so here is what you may have missed.

Men’s singles knockout rounds decided-

In front of a live audience, for the first time in Australian Open history, a Bowls Australia panel of Kelsey Cottrell, Barrie Lester, Steve Glasson and Lee Such announced the men’s singles knockout draw before it went live on the internet. 

Marquee match up’s were announced with names synonymous with the sport, drawn to meet in the first round of knockout, National Coach Steve Glasson and Lee Such predicted their men’s singles finalists and Kelsey Cottrell and Barrie Lester dissected the draw further with potential round two and three matches sure to draw a crowd.

The Australian Open newsletter was then released for everyone who has subscribed with an article running through the big match up’s and links to see the draw and next best qualifiers. 

Thank you for volunteering your time-

An article that features in the newsletter was a tribute to the volunteers who are working at the Bowls Australia Help Desk throughout the event. 

These gentlemen have been here every day assisting players and spectators with any queries they have and handing out competitor show bags to everyone that passes through the Broadbeach Bowls Club. 

June 14 preview – Women’s Singles sectional concludes as Men’s Pairs commences-

The Australian Open newsletter will always feature a preview of the following days play and June 14 has plenty of interesting matches to read about. 

Mega Bowl kicks off with a bang-

The first ever Australian Open Mega Bowl one-bowl tournament was run and won on Sunday night at Broadbeach Bowls Club, with over 90 people participating in an 8 round tournament for a prize pool of over $900!

Terrigal Bowls Coordinator Darren Morrison was the first lucky winner, needing only 8 bowls to win himself the entire prize pool, outdrawing unlucky South Australian young gun Tyson Wilson in the final.

Mixed Pairs Mega Bowl Announced-

Find out about the Mixed Pairs knockout event in the newsletter or the Bowls Australia Facebook page. 

What: One-bowl Mixed Pairs knockout tournament, winning pair takes all!

Who: Anyone can play! Each team must have one female and one male, who will each play one bowl. Team order can be changed between matches.

When: Friday, June 17, beginning at around 6:00pm.

Where: Broadbeach Bowls Club.

Australian Open features in TEQ filming with international YouTube stars-

On the first day of play Broadbeach Bowls Club was bustling when they welcomed international social media influencers from Singapore, India, Australia and Malaysia, who are currently on the Gold Coast filming promotional material for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
