The team successfully defended the title that Scott won four years ago, alongside Lynsey Clarke and Karen Murphy, to notch up the nation’s fourth gold medal from the tournament’s five disciplines contested so far.
The trio were clinical against Wales in the fifth final of the quadrennial tournament, prevailing 17-6 to secure their second world title, after all three were involved in the nation’s first gold medal win last weekend in the women’s fours discipline.
A sublime start to the match ended up being the difference, after the green and gold contingent raced away to an 11-1 lead after just seven ends.
“We came here wanting to make the final, which we did, so we’re wrapped to go back-to-back,” Van Asch said after triumphing.
“Throughout the championships our starts have been really good so we wanted to keep that form going and maintain it.
“We knew that Wales would keep fighting back, so it was a matter of us trying to get as many in there as we could and play defensively when we needed to.”
The victory marks the end to a stellar 11 days of competition for the trio, who boast an average age of just 26 years, having prevailed in both of the disciplines they contested.
Australia has now secured four gold, one silver and one bronze medal, and will add a further silver or gold medal to that count later this morning when the men’s fours team of Barrie Lester, Brett Wilkie, Aaron Wilson and Mark Casey contest the men’s fours final against the host-nation, live on Fox Sports 2 from 11.00am AEDT.
The result marks the nation’s 15th gold medal win in the history of the women’s event, since its inception in 1969, the most of any nation in either gender – ahead of New Zealand’s 9 gold in the women’s side, and England’s 10 in the men.
