McKerihen books ticket to maiden indoor final
Canada’s Kelly McKerihen has cemented her position as the first Australian Indoor Championships’ finalist at Tweed Heads this morning. Kelly McKerihen is the first woman to advance into the final of the Australian Indoor Championships at Tweed Heads, after defeating Diana Davis in straight sets.
Throughout the contest McKerihen was in outstanding form and sealed the semi-final contest in 8-7, 9-3.
McKerihen said that despite being a veteran of the international stage for Canada, she is looking forward to the prospect of playing in her first Australian Indoor Championships final.
“I’m really, really excited no matter what happens” McKerihen said.
“There are a lot of quality players in this tournament so hopefully it will be a great final.”
She won’t find out the name of her next opponent until later this afternoon, with Ellen Ryan and Rebecca Van Asch set to square off in the remaining women’s semi-final at 2pm today.
Reigning men’s champion Jeremy Henry takes on Ben Twist in the opening men’s semi-final at 11am, while the encounter between Engadine’s David Ferguson and Forster’s Dylan Riley will take place tomorrow morning at 9am.
The Australian Indoor Championships continues at Tweed Heads today and tomorrow, with all of the semi-finals and final encounter are filmed for delayed coverage on SBS’ The Bowls Show.
