Mitchell shines in the west

Solargain Perth Suns star Tom Mitchell is back in the winners circle after claiming his maiden WA state singles title. Solargain Perth Suns star Tom Mitchell has kept up his winning form adding another state title to his ever expanding resume.

Last year Tom Mitchell (27) claimed the Western Australian Champion of Champion Singles title and was runner-up to Adelaide Endurance star Scott Thulborn in the National Champion of Champion Singles.

Mitchell has started 2015 on a high winning his maiden WA State singles title with a victory over Daniel Paterson in the final on Australia Day.

Mitchell has also been selected to skip a rink for WA to contest the Australian Sides Championships at Yokine, WA from April 9-12.

The Western Australian Rosenthal Medallist (WA Bowler of the Year) was rewarded for stellar performances in 2014 with a spot in Bowls WA’s franchise the Solargain Perth Suns in the Australian Premier League.

The Suns, skipped by former Irish International Jeremy Henry alongside Clive Adams and last year’s debutant Tom Mitchell, were semi-finalist in the $110,000 APL going down to eventual champions the Murray Steamers.

The Solargain Perth Suns have been one of the most consistent sides in the opening two Australian Premier Leagues with a semi-final appearance in both years.

Mitchell performed highly in his first APL and would be expected by many to be named in the Solargain Perth Suns line-up for APL03; they will be aiming to go one better and contest the 2015 final.

The Blundstone Melbourne Roys were the first team to announce a change to their 2015 line-up with Australian ‘A’ squad member Aaron Wilson replacing the departing Graeme Archer.

The rumour mill is circulating that more teams will be announcing player movements in the coming months with whispers of another Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist currently in discussions with a franchise.
