Moama Bowling Club to go undercover
Part of Moama Bowling Club’s multi-million dollar renovations is to cover 12 of their rinks in order to host future international events. Moama Bowling Club, licensee holder of APL02 champions the Murray Steamers is about to undergo extensive renovations to their clubhouse and greens that will see the premises re-located over the railway line with the addition of a world-class covered green constructed by MakMax.
Bowls Australia’s preferred supplier of bowling green covers MakMax was selected by Moama Bowling Club to construct what will be a genuine feature of the multi-million dollar renovations.
The design will feature the club house opening out to the covered eight rink green with another four rink green to be covered and encompass its own bar; this smaller green will be perfect for barefoot bowls especially in the summer period which is busiest for social groups.
Moama seek to re-establish themselves as a premier bowling venue on the world stage by hosting international events, something the club has a long and proud history of doing; hosting the ever-growing Australian Premier League is also in their sights.
Moama Bowling Club Sports Administrator Zane Mikin-Laurie says if an opening came up in the coming years to tender to host the Australian Premier League Moama would certainly be interested.
“There have certainly been some discussions about utilizing the new facilities here at Moama to hold the APL or future World Bowls events,” said Mikin-Laurie.
“Moama has proven in the past our capabilities to hold large scale bowling events and when we throw into the mix a world-class bowls facility and plenty of accommodation options in the town, Moama would be a great venue for the APL and we will continue to hold some of the country’s richest bowls tournaments.”
Moama’s decision to use bowling green shade solution company MakMax was not solely about the design and ability to host prestigious bowls events, there was also careful consideration put into choosing a company whose materials could withstand harsh weather, something that is important for their current bowling members who face extremely hot conditions during the summer months.
