Musgrave Hill Bowls Club has been selected to host the Queensland Champion of Champions tournament. The Gold Coast will host another major bowls event with confirmation the Queensland Champion of Club Champions is heading to the region, Terry Wilson reports for the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Musgrave Hill Bowls Club has been selected to host the Queensland Champion of Champions tournament.

The best club bowlers from around the state will go head to head at the Musgrave Hill Bowls Club from October 22 to 27 in singles, pairs and fours in both men and women divisions.

Lynsey Clarke (Helensvale) is Gold Coast Tweed women’s singles champion and she went on to win the zone final to qualify for the state final.

Also into the Musgrave Hill event are Clarke’s clubmates Jayden Christie and Mark Casey (pairs) and Anthony Kiepe, Braidan Leese, Anthony Fantini and Geoff Gray (fours).

The chance is there for the state winners to get through to the world champion of champions tournament, but under a complicated system that will not happen until 2018.

For instance Australian Jackaroos captain Clarke has to win the Queensland C of Cs, then the Australian C of Cs next year to qualify for a crack at the worlds.

“It’s a long way away but it is a good long-range target,” Clarke said.

There will be eight state districts represented over the six days at Musgrave Hill for an event that follows a number of high-quality tournaments here.

Already this year the Australian Open singles, Australian Indoor singles, the Golden Nugget singles, the Five a Side Championship and the world under-25 championships have been staged on the Gold Coast.

Musgrave Hill chairman Ron Chambers said his club is pleased to be venue for the state Champion of Champions.

“We host a lot of games here,” he said.

“We are one of the host clubs for the Australian Open and we’re also one of the host clubs for the 2020 World Games.”
