National Rankings winners decided – June 2023
A Queenslander and Victorian have earned top spot in the men’s and women’s rankings following the conclusion of the 2022/23 national rankings period.
Aron Sherriff has leapt back up to top spot following a sensational 2023 Australian Open campaign that saw him clinch two gold medals and a silver in one of the greatest displays in tournament history.
The Broadbeach member successfully defended his singles title and conquered the fours for the first time, while a piece of Aaron Wilson brilliance saw his pairs run halted in the decider.
Sherriff has leapfrogged May leader and fellow fours winner in Corey Wedlock who rounds out the calendar in second, followed by Tasmania’s Josh Walker-Davis.
Australian Open men’s singles runner up Jacob Nelson has stormed into fourth position after his sensational event, while his brother Kane rounds out the top five.
After holding fort at the summit of the women’s rankings throughout the entirety of the calendar, Kelsey Cottrell has been dethroned by Cassandra Millerick following the latter’s women’s singles title on the Gold Coast a month ago.
The Victorian overcame a 0-7 deficit in the decider to hoist the trophy in one of the most wonderful finals in the event’s history.
Cottrell finishes in second place ahead of women’s fours champion and Millerick’s fellow Moama member Olivia Cartwright in third.
Rounding out the quintet are the 2022 Australian Open pairs runners up of Tris Doolan and Wendy Wilson.
Both Sherriff and Millerick will collect a prize cheque at the sport’s 2023 Awards Night in recognition of finishing as Australia’s number one ranked female and male bowlers for the 2022/23 season.
