Over-60’s set for Trans Tasman inclusion

by Bowls Australia on August 23, 2019

In a boost to the event, an Over-60’s component will be added to the annual Trans Tasman Test Series against New Zealand later this year.

The ‘Senior Jackaroos’, consisting of five men and five women, will compete alongside the BCiB Australian Jackaroos and Emerging Jackaroos from November 25-27 on the Gold Coast.

Bowls Australia (BA) will send National Selectors to the upcoming Australian Senior Sides Championships (Ettalong, NSW – October 21-24), with the selections to be primarily based on performance in this event and availability for the Trans Tasman Test Series.

From there, those who have earned selection will represent Australia against New Zealand in November, with all costs covered by BA.

Bowls Australia National Coach Steve Glasson was delighted at the prospect of welcoming new members to the Jackaroos family.

“The addition of an Over-60’s component to the Trans Tasman is a wonderful initiative by the boards of both Bowls Australia and Bowls New Zealand,” Glasson said.

“We can’t wait to welcome the Senior Jackaroos into the fold and embrace such a committed demographic of our sport.

“Their inclusion will continue to strengthen and enhance the High Performance pathways and representing Australia.”
