The Padstow Bowls Club in New South Wales has been voted as the winner of the Audika Community Service award at Bowls Australia’s (BA) 2021 Awards Night.

The club has been recognised for its dedication to the local community and the charitable work that it has completed.

Padstow has embodied the values of inclusivity and has provided a platform for bowlers with a disability to flourish, regularly hosting Special Olympics bowls events and raising a staggering $12,140 for the local Special Olympics Zone.

Furthermore, it has implemented ladies’ pennant matches to weekends to give women who work an opportunity to participate at suitable times.

Padstow Chairman, Paul Genner, says that the club works tirelessly for the community and that he is extremely proud of its achievements,

“We’re a relatively small club in South Western Sydney with approximately 100 bowlers and a strong female group involved,” Genner said.

“In 2019 we had a luncheon for the Mark Hughes Foundation and also raised money for Ronald McDonald House, and in 2016 we became involved with the Special Olympics to run family bowling days at the club.

“In 2019, $1000 was raised for the athletes to go to the World Olympics where three won gold medals.

“We do support community growth and we are very proud to accept this award.”
