The quarter-final placings of the Australian Indoor Championships have been decided, with an all-star cast. The quarter-finals of the $30,000 Australian Indoor Championships have been decided.

The tournament is quickly progressing to the business end, with six of the eight matches set be staged from 12.40pm, while the remaining two will commence at 2.00pm.

In a major boil-over, six-time event winner Karen Murphy won’t play any further part in this year’s competition though, after local Tweed Heads fan favourite Kristy Thatcher achieved a result accomplished by so few over the years, with a 8-7, 8-10, 4-1 victory.

Defending champions Jeremy Henry and Carla Krizanic already had their fates determined last night, when they won their second round matches, and are set to encounter Western Australia’s Clive Adams and young Australian Jackaroo Dawn Hayman respectively.

On the same half of the draw as the titleholders are East Maitland’s Joshua Bell and World Bowls Championships selected Jackaroo Barrie Lester, and Jackaroos Captain Lynsey Clarke and her national teammate Rebecca Van Asch – with those four matches set for the earlier session.

Also being staged at 12.30pm is the quarter between Steven Grant, from Hawthorn, South Australia, and young Melbourne prodigy Curtis Hanley, and in the women’s event, Canadian international Kelly McKerihen learnt the name of her next opponent, Samantha Noronha, who jumps straight back on the carpet after claiming the scalp of Kelsey Cottrell in that session.

Also progressing to the round 8 is former Australian great Ian Taylor, who faces one of the sport’s preeminent players in Aron Sherriff, while dual female bowler of the year Natasha Scott will encounter Thatcher, who is riding a wave of success after downing Murphy.

Those two games, featuring the recent Australian Open men’s and women’s singles winners, will be staged from 2.00pm.
