Right at Home brand ambassador: Lucas Protopapas

by Bowls Australia on October 5, 2022

Right at Home were delighted to share in Brand Ambassador Lucas Protopapas’ journey this past month. Lucas, a well-known bowler, was born with cerebral palsy in his hands and legs and is stepping out to raise money to support children and adults living with the condition.

Lucas is hoping to raise $1,000 which will go towards providing vital equipment, therapy and services to children and adults as well as further research and innovative technology. Lucas has pledged to take 10,000 steps a day, which for someone who has cerebral palsy in his legs, is an amazing feat! If you would like to donate to Lucas’ fundraising page click here.

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood and is caused by damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It directly affects a person’s movement and posture. Complex and lifelong physical, medical, educational and social needs associated with cerebral palsy remain unmet. Furthermore, relative to the condition’s prevalence, cerebral palsy remains under-recognised.

A targeted Australian and New Zealand Cerebral Palsy Strategy has been developed to reflect a united voice informed by people with cerebral palsy, their families, professionals, and researchers across Australia and New Zealand.

Lucas has had several operations since he was born but with the love, support and help of his beautiful family and the bowling community which he and his mum Carol are a part of, he has flourished, and is now an accomplished bowler competing in many local, regional and state competitions. The smile on Lucas’ face and his friendly nature lights up the day for everyone who is lucky enough to meet him. Keep up the great work Lucas!
