Right at Home Para Jackaroos set to do battle in IBBA World Championships

by Val Febbo on March 8, 2023

The International Blind Bowls Association (IBBA) World Championships has kicked off at Club Tweed with a quartet of Right at Home Para Jackaroos taking to the greens as they bid for global accolades.

The Australian team, selected by the Australian Blind Bowls Association (ABBA), has included the likes of Jake Fehlberg, Helen Boardman, Calvin Rodgers and Jacky Hudson in the squad.

2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Fehlberg has commenced his new era with his brother Cody as his director following his father Grant’s decision to step down from the position.

The Queenslander has claimed his opening two B2 men’s singles victories against England’s Ron Homer and Hong Kong’s Li Chi Ming Rockey to take the ascendancy in the round robin format.

Fehlberg would reunite with his Birmingham 2022 teammate in Boardman and her director Peter Doherty in the B2 mixed pairs, in which the Australians would enjoy a brilliant start with a 23-3 win over England’s combination of Homer and Sarah Marshall before a second round win over Malaysia.

Boardman’s own singles campaign has been difficult, going winless from her opening two encounters against England and Malaysia respectively, however she remains firmly in the medal hunt.

Rodgers and his director Jason Scheutjens have commenced the B3 men’s singles in style, with two victories with a total of just four shots conceded from the opening two rounds.

Hudson and her director Rob Hudson have evened their ledger after their opening two contests, falling just short against England in round one before rebounding to defeat Hong Kong by two shots in their ensuing encounter.

Rodgers and Hudson have enjoyed a fantastic start to the B3 mixed pairs, with a 16-13 victory over England before the pair fell just short against Hong Kong in their second round.
