School holidays fun at West Pennant Hills

by Aidan Davis on October 18, 2018

The West Pennant Hills Sports Club set themselves the challenge of putting together a successful school holidays Lawn Bowls program so they called in the assistance of Sydney Metropolitan Regional Bowls Manager Brett Hughes.

Brett directed the WPH Sports Club to Bowls Australia’s junior participation program, Jr. Jack Attack, and went about preparing club members to set up different games using the Jr. Jack Attack activity cards which are specifically designed to ensure kids enjoy their bowls experience.

Max Walters from the WPH Sports Club was the man in charge of 61 students between the age of 5 and 12 from the Cherrybrook Primary ‘Out of School Care Program’ and did a sensational job.

Sydney didn’t co-operate with the weather; the greens had coped a soaking but the 14 coaches were armed with wet weather gear awaiting the 61 students to arrive.

WPH Sport Club volunteer’s role on the day was to instruct the kids using the Jr. Jack Attack kits and they cleverly divided themselves into groups and spread themselves across the green; this allowed them to set each rink with a different obstacle/target and the kids were able to rotate around the green and enjoy all.

One of the coaches said, “This event may be too intimidating for the five year olds.”

He was very quick to change his mind after two five year olds beat him!

The WPH Sports Club had thought of everything, even supplying the Bowls Club with 30 prizes; whilst Max also had the great idea of printing off certificates for the students.

The day went extremely well and congratulations must go the Men’s and Ladies Bowls Committee at the WPH Sports Club who are always looking for fresh ideas to get new bowlers and new activities at their club.

The 61 children behaved extremely well, they loved the Jr. Jack Attack program, and they thanked the WPH Sports Clubs 14 enthusiastic coaches.

With kids across the country returning back to school now is a great time to make arrangements with your areas Regional Bowls Manager to conduct School Holidays Bowls Programs at your clubs.
