Scott and Sherriff lead national rankings; Bester and Krizanic hot on their heels

The national rankings have undergone some changes for the 2016-17 year Australian Open Singles Champions Aron Sherriff and Natasha Scott lead the national rankings after September following changes to the player ranking system.

Following recommendations by an internal review committee Bowls Australia has decided to move into a rolling rankings system to allow for each player to receive 12 months of points for each performance.

The points for each event will now remain with the player until the month that the event takes place the following year.

As an example, Aron Sherriff achieved the number two Australian ranking behind Ryan Bester following his success at the 2016 Australian Open; however he would only receive the benefit of his achievement for one month, but now with the new system coming into play Sherriff’s Australian Open Singles points will stay with him until June 2017.

There has also been an adjustment to State Championship points which will be allocated based on the number of entrants into last year events.

States like Tasmania whose State Championship entries have risen over the years, their State Champions will now receive more national rankings points, and State Champion of Champions will remain calculated on the number of clubs in each state.

With the Australian Champion of Champions currently taking place at the Keilor Bowls Club in Victoria there are plenty of national ranking points on offer and the two people with their eyes on the prize will be the number two and three ranked female bowlers Carla Krizanic and Ester Regan.

Queensland’s Ryan Bester is within striking distance of that top spot in his quest for three consecutive Australian Bowler of the Year.

October is a busy month with the New South Wales Men’s State Championships, ACT State Pairs Championships, the Griffith Two Bowl Master Triples, Ocean Shores Country Club Classic Fours, Numurkah Golf Golden Pairs, Tooheys Twilight Pairs at the Hills, the Queensland Champion of Club Champions and the Moama Prestige Pairs Classic.
