Aron Sherriff has a bit of work ahead of him if he wants to feature in the Gold Nugget finals, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports. The cream is rising to the top at Tweed Heads’ coveted Golden Nugget event, as Terry Wilson reports for the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Australian Open winner Aron Sherriff and defending women’s tournament champion Anne Johns have mountains to climb to figure in the finals of the rich Golden Nugget Invitation Singles.

The prestige event kicked off at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club on Monday and after three rounds Sherriff had one win and with a negative shot margin of seven after losses to Steve Glasson (three times a Nugget winner) and South Australian Scott Thulborn, then a win over Steve Halmai yesterday afternoon.

Johns also lost her opening two matches, going down to Helensvale star Lynsey Clarke 25-22, then to four-times Nugget champion Kiwi Jo Edwards yesterday morning.

Unfortunately, Clarke had to withdraw from yesterday’s rounds due to illness.

Australian Open champion Natasha Scott had a 25-24 win in the first round against Broadbeach player Chloe Stewart but lost in the second round by 25-14 against 2015 Open champion Ellen Ryan.

The Nugget continues with two rounds today and winds up tomorrow.
