The great scotts rank best

The Aero Bowls National Rankings have been re-set after the inaugural 12 month cycle came to a stunning conclusion at the Australian Open. Natasha Scott has started where she left off and Burleigh’s Scott De Jongh has made the most of the registered rankings events in his backyard. A new rankings year is upon us but that hasn’t stopped Natasha Scott accumulating more rankings points and reaffirming her spot at the top of the Aero Bowls national rankings.

Scott has started the year as she finished it, at the top of the tree, courtesy of her victory over Genevieve Delves in the NSW Champion of Champion singles at Oak Flats.

Scott is already a threat in the race to be crowned Aero Bowls Female Bowler of the Year for consecutive years after securing a spot in the National Champion of Champions event from September 16-18, an event that carries numerous ranking points, and with her confidence sky high after such a sensational 12 months, Scott would be installed an early favourite to claim another National title.

“I’m absolutely stoked to have won the NSW Champ of Champs for the second time and I can’t wait to represent NSW at the National Champion of Champions at Coolum Beach,” said the newly crowned champion.

“It is great to be back at the top of the national rankings but there are some fantastic bowlers that will be nipping at my heels with so many fantastic ranking events coming up throughout the year.

“I think the ranking system is an awesome initiative that Bowls Australia has put into place as it gives everyone an opportunity to see where they are ranked and also have a chance to win the big prize, Female Bowler of the Year.”

In the men’s rankings, Burleigh Heads’ Scott De Jongh has jumped out to an early lead thanks to his victory in the Tweed Heads Prestige Open Singles against Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kelvin Kerkow and his third place finish at the Kingscliff Schweppes Open Pairs.

De Jongh will now join an elite field in this year’s Golden Nugget where he will meet National Coach Steve Glasson OAM in the opening round, followed by four past and present Australian representatives Mark Casey, Leif Selby, Dylan Fisher and Aron Sherriff.

New kid on the block Mason Lewis from Merrylands in Sydney’s west had the biggest win of his career, taking out the $30,000 Park Beach Open Singles, defeating Cabramatta’s Corey Wedlock in an exciting final and finding himself sitting second on the national rankings.

Australian Jackaroos Brett Wilkie and Matthew Flapper have started the year well with a victory in the Kingscliff Schweppes Open Pairs, landing themselves in equal fifth position on the Aero Bowls National Rankings.

In a coup for the Northern Territory, the state currently has four bowlers inside the top 10 courtesy of their strong performances in the Darwin Carnival.

Lucas Baker won the Darwin Carnival Singles, was a semi-finalist in the pair’s event and now finds himself sitting outright third in the race to be crowned Aero Bowls Male Bowler of the Year; not to be outdone by NT Regional Bowls Manager Colleen Orr who is equal third in the women’s rankings.

After just a month 95 men and 29 women have already accumulated ranking points and an official National ranking for the year 2015-16.

Clubs can register their interest to have their events considered for approval of the new player ranking system; a non-refundable registration fee of $63 is payable at the time of registration.

Each event approved will receive promotion of that event through the Bowls Australia website and social media channels.
