Three new Directors ready Bowls to thrive

Bowls Australia’s Board has been bolstered by the appointment of three experienced and accomplished Directors, set to help lead and guide the strategic direction of the sport’s national body.

Club Tweed’s Chief Executive Officer Gerard Robinson has been appointed to the Elected Director casual vacancy position, while Chief Executive Director of Australian Marketing Institute Bronwyn Powell and former South Australian Sports Minister Iain Evans round out the Board’s complement of Appointed Directors.

Robinson boasts considerable bowls-industry experience at the helm of two of the sport’s pre-eminent clubs for more than 18 years, as the current CEO of Club Tweed for 11 years and former Chief Operating Officer of Moama Bowling Club for seven years.

Powell possesses significant global experience with several of the biggest brands in the food industry, having served as Chief Marketing Officer/Marketing Director for Mars Food Australia, Oporto, McDonalds Australia and Yum! Restaurants International in Canada and USA, among others.

Evans was a member of the South Australian Parliament for 21 years, including serving as Leader and Deputy Leader of the State Liberal Party, and has developed Board experience at 25 organisations across different industries for more than 30 years.

BA President Matt Burgess said the three appointments complement the existing Board Directors and provide considerable business and sporting acumen to drive the sport to even greater heights.

“The appointment of Gerard, Bronwyn and Iain to Bowls Australia’s Board is a considerable coup for not just the organisation, but the sport more broadly,” Burgess said.

“We were excited to have a distinguished list of applicants to choose from, and had the luxury of focussing on the skillsets, perspective, diversity and experience our sport needs in leadership to see it thrive in future generations.”

These three appointments see BA’s Board return to operating at its full capacity, of six Elected Directors and three Appointed Directors, and are a result of a thorough recruitment process of the BA Nominations Committee and Board.

The BA Board comprises:

  • Matt Burgess (President/Chair)
  • Bronwyn Powell
  • Genevieve Delves
  • Gerard Robinson
  • Iain Evans
