Two additional host venues have been confirmed for the 2023 World Bowls Championships, to cater for the biggest field in the event’s history.

Mudgeeraba and Paradise Point Bowls Clubs have been added to the host club group of five on the Gold Coast, joining original hosts Broadbeach, Helensvale and Musgrave Hill.

Four days of competition will be played at the new host venues, across a variety of disciplines.

More green space than ever will be needed for this year’s World Championships, with 47 nations expected to compete on the Gold Coast, up from the 24-nations that have attended previous stagings.

Additionally, the event will see para disciplines compete concurrently for the first time.

More than 1300 matches are expected to be played across the Gold Coast’s world-renowned greens from August 29-September 10, with Mudgeeraba and Paradise Point well and truly equipped to host the world’s best bowlers.

Both clubs are currently Australian Open host venues, so are familiar to playing host to an event of such a significant magnitude.

Bowls Australia CEO Matthew Kennedy said the expansion of host clubs once again displays the incredible selection of bowls venues available on the Gold Coast.

“We are privileged to have such high quality clubs and greens in Australia and on the Gold Coast to be able to host the pinnacle event that is the World Bowls Championships,” Kennedy said.

“With five outstanding host clubs, we are looking forward to a tremendous event and seeing the world’s best in action at some world class venues.”

World Bowls CEO Neil Dalrymple said the venues will add to what should be an amazing event on the Gold Coast.

“We are excited to see the World Bowls Championships draw as much interest as it has from our member nations,” Dalrymple said.

“Clubs on the Gold Coast have proved themselves as world class for many years, so the addition of Mudgeeraba and Paradise Point will just add to the spectacle of this year’s World Championships.”
