Two new award categories have been unveiled for the 2016 Bowls Australia Awards Night with the inclusion of the Club of the Year and Bowler with a Disability of the Year awards. Two new award categories have been unveiled for the 2016 Bowls Australia Awards Night, to be held on the sunny Gold Coast at Mantra Legends on Thursday October 27, with the inclusion of the Club of the Year and Bowler with a Disability of the Year awards.
Adding to the ten existing awards, the two new categories recognise the importance of clubs in delivering national level events and programs, as well as highlight the outstanding performances of bowlers with a disability over the past 12 months. Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple highlighted that the number and quality of bowlers with a disability that have emerged over the past few years made the inclusion of this award an easy decision.
“We have seen the number of Bowlers with a Disability participating in national level events increasing steadily for the past few years, culminating with over 70 BWD entrants at the recent Australian Open,”
Dalrymple said. “With the continuing emphasis placed on para-sport events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Bowls Australia is thrilled to encourage and recognise our best and brightest bowlers with a disability at this year’s Awards Night.”
Dalrymple also touched on the role that clubs play in the delivery of national events and national level initiatives.
“Every year we see hundreds of clubs ably assisting in the growth of the sport by delivering national and international events to a very high standard, delivering national programs such as Jack Attack and connecting with the community in many other ways, so the Club of the Year award is a great way for Bowls Australia to recognise the role that clubs play in growing our great sport,” Dalrymple added.
Along with the two new awards, the existing ten awards will also be handed out again in October, with nominations now open for the following awards:

Domina BCiB Under-18 Male Bowler of the Year

Regional Bowls Manager of the Year (all RBMs are nominated by default but supporting statements from the public are welcome)
