Vale: Darby Ross

Bowls Australia is saddened to hear of the recent passing of former national representative Darby Ross. Ross, who was a life member of Kahibah Bowling Club, was renowned in the Newcastle District Bowling Association and was a Bowls NSW Hall of Fame inductee in 2008.

As Australia’s 91st capped male representative, Ross competed at the 1987 Asia Pacific Championships, where he won gold and bronze medals, and the 1988 World Bowls Championships.

He also enjoyed success abroad in international competitions that weren’t selected events, including winning the Hong Kong International Pairs in 1981.

On the national stage, Ross won the Australian Champion of Champion singles in 1983 and the Australian Champion of Champions State Fours in 1992.

He was also a prolific winner of state events, with highlights including triumphing at the State Champion of Champions singles in 1976 and the State Singles in 1982, while he also represented the the NSW Blues on 157 occasions, having debuted in 1976.
