Brett Wilkie has provided a wrap up of day four of the World Singles Champion of Champion at Club Helensvale. Day 4: Magnificent day for lawn bowls at Club Helensvale today, not a cloud in the sky with temperatures into the low 30s. A slight breeze with greens running 16-16.5.

Rd 7: Katrina v Emma Firyana – Malaysia
A great start by Wright picking up 2 shots on the first end and holding another good 1 on the next until Firyana sliced the jack to pick up 2 to draw level.

Wright jumped back on again collecting another double to lead 4-2 and unlucky on the next end slicing the jack to give it away after holding shot, Firyana drew another to level scores once again at 4 all.

A good end from Firyana to collect 2 shots and take the lead after 5 ends.

Not to be outdone, Wright answered with a great end of her own to pick up 4 and regain the lead 8-6.

Wright then held a good 2 shots before Firyana drove the jack in the ditch to hold 3, Wright drew within a foot of the jack in the ditch but was still 1 down, scores were then 8-7 after 7 ends.

Firyana picked up 2 on the eighth end to hold a 1 shot lead going into the final end of the set.

Two great shots from Firyana to hold 2 shots within inches until Wright drove the jack in the ditch and went with it to score one and tie the first set 9 all.

The pair then traded ends in the second set with Wright leading 5-4 after 4 ends.

Firyana then stepped up a gear playing very well to collect 5 shots across the next three ends to lead 9-5 after seven ends.

Having to go for shots, Wright was unsuccessful on the eighth end dropping 2 shots to put her out of reach with a deficit of 6 shots and only one end to play. Wright picked up 2 shots on the last end, game to Firyana winning the second set 11-7.

A good quality game with Firyana going up another gear towards the end to run away with the game.

Rd 7: Scott v Boaz Markus – Israel
A great start by Thulborn picking up 2 shots on the first end until Markus replied with two good ends of his own lead 4-2 after 3 ends.

Thulborn steadied and won the next four ends to take a 9-4 lead after 7 ends

A great end from Markus to collect 3 shots and keep him within reach of a 2 shot deficit going into the last end of the set.

One shot to Thulborn secured him the first set 10-7.

A good quality start to the second set by both players to be 3 all after 5 ends.

Thulborn held two close shots before a precision drive from Markus took out both bowls and stayed for 3, Thulborn long with his third until Markus drew another. Thulborn drifted through a hole with his last  to drop 4 and trail 3-7 after 6 ends.

After picking up 1 on the next end, Thulborn then produced his best end of the tournament picking up 4 shots to regain the lead 8-7 with one end to play.

With Markus holding 2, Thulborn drew second shot with his third bowl to hold game, Markus was long and wide with his last meaning he only scored 1 to tie the second set 8 all which meant Thulborn had won the match.

Another good quality game with Thulborn again pulling out some telling bowls at the right time to get over the line.

Thulborn remains the only player undefeated in his section with Pete Bonsor in second with only one loss. Thulborn had a bye in the afternoon and has 3 rounds remaining v Fiji, Canada and Botswana.

Rd 8: Katrina v Kazuko Matsubara – Japan
After trading the first few ends the score was 2 all after 3 ends, Wright was one down on the fourth end and trailed the jack for 3 shots with her last to lead 5-2.

Wright never looked back after this winning the first set 11-4 and dominating the second set to win 16-2.

Wright was sitting in fifth on the leader board going into this round and due to Fiji (third) and Wales (fourth) both losing she is now in third position. A win in her last remaining sectional game tomorrow morning v Fiji will secure her a place in the play-offs, a loss will see her miss out.
