2023 Burnside Pairs teams announced

Four Australian teams have been named to head across the ditch to New Zealand for the 2023 Burnside Pairs in mid-January for one of the most illustrious events on the calendar.

As per usual, Australia will field an open men’s team, open women, emerging men and emerging women with state pathways coaches and Right at Home Jackaroos Lynsey Clarke and Ben Twist to accompany them on the journey abroad.

For the open men’s combatants, Cody Packer will lead for skip Aaron Teys, while Kylie Whitehead will play the role for her skip Dawn Hayman in the open women’s duo.

The men’s emerging team will see Cohen Litfin lead for South Australia’s Nathan Black, while Kate Matthews will lead for Jessie Cottell in the women’s pair.

The coveted event will be held from January 13-15, 2023, at the Burnside Bowls Club in Christchurch on New Zealand’s South Island, and holds a valued place within the hearts of all the Australians who have visited over the course of the tournament’s history.

The last time an Australian contingent flew across the Tasman for the tournament was in 2020, where Aaron Wilson and Corey Wedlock saluted in Division 1, while Carl Healey and Jayden Christie would claim Division 2 honours.

In 2018 Kelsey Cottrell and Karen Murphy took home the Division 4 title, while the likes of Scott Thulborn, Aron Sherriff, Chloe Stewart and Anne Johns have all conquered the club in various divisions in recent years.
