Australia off to promising start in World Champ of Champs

by Aidan Davis on October 30, 2018

Australia’s Lee Schraner and Colleen Orr commenced their 2018 World Champion of Champions campaigns on home soil yesterday, securing a combined five wins from six starts at St Johns Park in New South Wales.

Schraner, from Rosny Park in Tasmania, enjoyed three successive victories on the opening day, to finish sitting in second place of his section.

The dual Australian Champion of Champions winner toppled Scotland’s Martyn Rice in straight sets, South Africa’s Wayne Rittmuller in a tie-break and Spain’s Brian Robertson in what was his most clinical performance of the day.

Orr, from Darwin in the Northern Territory, defeated Scotland’s Dee Hoggan and South Africa’s Leone Du Rand respectively to open and close her opening day, but suffered defeat in her middle match to section-topper Tammy Tham from Singapore.

Elsewhere, Carmen Anderson (Norfolk Island), Shannon McIlroy (NZ) and Roger Jones (Wales) topped the three remaining sections after Round 3.

The 2018 World Champion of Champions continues at St Johns Park until this Sunday, November 4.

St Johns Park will be live-streaming the final three days of the event, including semi-finals and finals, via their Facebook page.
