BCiB Australian Jackaroo Ben Twist has been appointed as the Pathways Coach for NSW and ACT in a further boost for the national pathways program.

Following on from appointments made in October 2020 and February 2021, Twist’s primary responsibility will be to identify talent from his state to progress into the Pathways Jackaroos squad and beyond.

Boasting a playing career consisting of 69 international appearances and counting, as well as a two-time Bowls Premier League winner for the Sydney Lions and Australian Open triples champion, Twist also works within the bowls industry, as an Administrator/Coach for St Johns Park Bowling Club.

The 30-year-old has also tasted gold for his country, with a gold medal in the 2019 Multi-Nations fours event among others.

Twist said he was ecstatic at his appointment and is excited to pass knowledge to the next generation of talent from his region.

“Coaching is a real passion of mine and I’m really looking forward to doing my bit in helping the next generation of players and coaches,” he said.

“I’ve come up through the state systems and I know how much it’s helped me, I’ve had a lot of really good coaches and mentors so this is my chance to pass on what I’ve learned onto the next generation.

“I’d like to set up some programs of my own to help the New South Wales and ACT pathways members.

“I would love to thank the National Coach Gary Willis, Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple and the board for the appointment.”

National Coach Gary Willis is over the moon with Twist’s appointment, noting that his international playing experience will help him enormously.

“We’re so excited to have Ben join the National Pathways Program, he is going to be a wonderful asset to the coaching team,” he said.

“His Jackaroos experience will hold him in good stead as he knows what it takes to make it, and can pass on valuable knowledge to the future stars of the sport.

“Ben is very keen to pursue his coaching career having worked in this space for sometime at his home club at St Johns Park in Sydney.

“Additionally he has recently completed extensive study across sports management and leadership along with his qualification as a Bowls Australia Advanced Coach, and brings a wealth of knowledge and we look forward to him sharing that with us and the program.”
