Black and Cottell dominate on day two of Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships

by Val Febbo on December 6, 2023

It was another dominant day for Australia’s Jessie Cottell and Nathan Black at the Junior World Bowls Championships in Scotland with an unblemished record with both ensuring their place in the knockout stages of the singles competition.

Cottell was in rampant form in her singles match, comfortably overcoming Hungary’s Sarolta Schrank 19-0 18-1 in what was a scintillating display.

The Cabramatta product sits in first place in her section thanks to two straight sets salutations, boasting a whopping shot differential of 63.

Her form has guaranteed that she can only finish as low as second on the table, booking her place in the quarterfinals.

Black will join his compatriot in the knockout stage after defeating Ireland’s Ryan McElroy 7-2 7-5 in a brilliant performance to sit atop his section with one round to play.

The mixed pairs event saw the Australians defeat Canada’s Jordan Kos and Erik Galipeau 15-0 9-5 to move into second place with their final sectional match against Macau to come.

Should Black and Cottell win that, they will progress to the quarterfinals.

The Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships runs from December 4-9, 2023 in Scotland. The final two days of the competition will be live streamed via the World Bowls Facebook page on the final two days of competition.
