Black and Cottell start Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships strongly

by Val Febbo on December 5, 2023

The Australian contingent of Nathan Black and Jessie Cottell have commenced their assault on the 2023 Junior World Bowls Indoor Championships in style across both singles draws, with their only blemish in the mixed pairs.

Black’s opening singles match at the East Kilbride Indoor Bowling Club was against Hong Kong China’s Langley Au Yeung and the newly minted Right at Home Jackaroo would run rampant in the opening set before facing a strong challenge in the second.

He would go behind 4-5 with two ends to play but managed to avoid the tiebreak with a 15-2 7-5 win to sit second in his group after just one contest.

Cottell’s first contest came against Wales’ Estee Parry and after a comfortable commencement to the contest, the Emerging Jackaroo would run away with a rampant second to record a 9-3 21-0 victory to top her section at the conclusion day one.

The mixed pairs saw the Australians fall Ireland’s Shauna O’Neill and Ryan McElroy 3-8 9-6 1-0, with the duo sitting in third place in their section.

The World Bowls Junior Indoor Championships runs from December 4-9, 2023 in Scotland. The final two days of the competition will be live streamed via the World Bowls Facebook page on the final two days of competition.
