Following its Annual General Meeting, Bowls Australia today released its 2022-23 Annual Report, which can be viewed here.

The Report includes the organisation’s audited annual accounts for FY22-23, showing an operating loss of $1.167M. It further details BA’s commitment to financial recovery plans and how it immediately responded with the implementation of new and improved structures and systems.

Working together with its Member State and Territory Associations, BA continues to consider and address a multi-year financial turnaround strategy that seeks to maintain, and ideally enhance, all the annual events and activities that are a feature of Bowls across Australia.

Echoing the content of his BA President’s Report, Matt Burgess advised the AGM that he was thankful to all State and Territory Associations, and other stakeholders of the sport, for their supportive intent and action in respect to BA’s financial circumstances. In doing so, he acknowledged that there is further important work ahead to address the arising challenges.

At the AGM, former Bowls Tasmania President Graham Hay was elected by the State and Territory Associations to BA’s Board of Directors. A further elected Board Director position remained unfilled, resulting in a casual vacancy that the Board will now consider.

Hay, who has an extensive background in Human Resources, Safety and Culture, boasts experience as President at both a club and state level in the sport, at Latrobe Bowls Club from 2018-2019 and Bowls Tasmania from 2019-2022.

Further, the BA Board met after today’s AGM and resolved the reappointments of Lydia Dowse, Iain Evans and Bronwyn Powell as its three Appointed Directors for the next year through to the 2024 AGM.

Matt Burgess was re-appointed as BA’s President for the same timeframe.

At the AGM, Louise Witton concluded her tenure on the Board, after serving for the maximum capacity of three full terms, while Paul Zerella did not stand for re-election.

BA President, Matt Burgess, said “Louise and Paul have been outstanding servants of Bowls at the national level and the sport will be forever indebted to their contributions.”

“BA is delighted to welcome Graham to the Board, and to welcome back Lydia, Iain and Bronwyn for it to continue with an excellent mix of required skills and backgrounds,” he added.

BA’s Board of Directors at 22 November 2023:

Matt Burgess (President), Genevieve Delves, Lydia Dowse, Iain Evans, Jess de Greenlaw, Graham Hay, Bronwyn Powell, Gerard Robinson
