Bowls Australia nominated for 2023 Australian Sports Commission Media Award

Bowls Australia (BA) has been nominated for the accolade of Best Coverage of Sport with a Disability as part of the 2023 Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Media Awards.

With a record number of entries across all categories for the nominating delegates to cast their eyes over, BA’s continuous work to provide the best coverage possible has been recognised across various platforms, such as the website, social media, Rinkside Live streamingThe Right Line podcast, Without Bias and The Bowls Show.

BA has been nominated alongside the Seven Network’s defending winner Matt Carmichael, The Guardian’s Kieran Pender and The Pacific Sports Show on ABC Pacific for its coverage of the Oceania Para Badminton Championships.

The BA media team has worked tirelessly to promote how wonderful disability bowls is as part of the broader messaging that this sport is truly the most inclusive in the world.

CEO Matthew Kennedy is thrilled with the recognition by the Australian Sports Commission, and Bowls Australia aims to continue its push of covering as much disability as bowls possible to showcase what the nation’s best can do on the green.

“This is a wonderful honour to be alongside three sensational nominees who are all committed to bringing the community the best coverage of all athletes,” Kennedy said.

“Bowls is a sport that prides itself on its inclusivity and we at BA want to be an embodiment of that, to showcase the outstanding quality of what our talented para bowlers do and achieve.

“As well as our Para Nationals event streaming from Perth, the 2023 World Bowls Championships coverage from the Gold Coast highlighted the importance of para bowls to the sport, with three amazing finals at Club Helensvale capping off a brilliant opening week, not to mention the Australian Jackaroos securing the global event’s inaugural Overall Para Trophy..

The winner of the award will be announced on February 21, 2024, at a ceremony in Melbourne.
